Visited Bargehouse today all good.

Jobs

Jostein is going to make a vector file of the floorplans including details such as how light/dark room is and where the power points are located.

Meetings

Design group for the show are meeting tomorrow at 11.00 in the third year studio.
Brief: ‘Come up with a simple unifying element for all visual material that will encaptulate the breakout/rethinking of what a degree show should entail’

They are then meeting on the Friday at 11.00 (3ys) to finalise and then the rest of the committee will join them at 12.00. Decision will be presented and organisation of space will be attempted to be finalised.

Space

For the moment these are the people representing each pathway/group in regards to your degree show space:

Advertising: Sophie & Kayleigh

Moving Image: Sam & Abbie

Illustration: ??????

Design: (for the moment)
Josh’s group Elad,
Rathna’s group G-money,
Vals group Jo/Alex,
Susanna Jostein,
Max Monika/Annette,
Patrick Ken/Felix/Jacko,
Sadnha Ronin/Neville.

Each of these named people are to email their pathway/group letting their peeps know that their is a year meeting June 2nd 11th Floor RLS, and it is their last chance to pay the £40. If they miss that deadline then they must pay £60.

They are also to notify them that each student must know what they will be exhibiting and the requirements of that piece by Tuesday June 2nd. As people organising each room MUST have an idea of this in order to proceed, simple shit.

I think it’s going to be a busy few weeks…

See you tommorrow/Friday/Tuesday x

Web Design – 1st Draft

Filed under: Site Design — Tags: — Lok Neville Lee @ 3:51 pm

Hi all,

Ronin has drafted the site (flows linearly at the moment, so just click whatever on the page):
http://www.ronincho.com/csmbagd09/

It uses a blog structure like many big exhibitions e.g. onedotzero.com. The design can change but the navigation method is fixed. Georgia instead of Garamond is used here because it’s HTML-based (as opposed to Flash-based).

Please comment (sensibly).

Update from 3rd March

Hellooo ha. Good dinner team.
Here is an update of the show according to what I have been updated with. Apologies if it is ever so slightly off.

T-Shirts
Joe is off to Istanbul as of Thursday. Louise will be heading up in place.
Designs and illustrations to Steve/Louise. We need volunteers for screen printing during the final week of term and possibly next week. The main screen printing day will be on the Thursday 19th of March. The entire screen printing has been booked, all the beds, the entire room. We’ll need lots of help, even if you haven’t screen printed before. It will be a fantastic opportunity for all of us to work together.

Garage Sale
Bring stuff in on Friday. Louise/Francesco/Surya will give more details. However for now all we need to know is there will be a collection point this Friday for old t-shirts/jumpers/books/games/cards etc.
This is panning out to be a fantastic event and I cannot wait to participate within the event!

Alcohol
Rich and Ollie you both need to liase with Felix/Monika. He should have the finalized pdf sponsorship pack.

Party
Jack will be away in Istanbul.
Wesley, ‘Anything But’ is booking the photo studio in the last week of term to hold an inter-year party. It might be an idea to organize a venue after?

Website Design
The main designers for this seems to be Jo/Tom/Adam/Neville/Ronin. However Stina/Louise will organise this group?

Sponsorship
We need more contacts. Leave a comment on this post with the relevant contacts or speak to Felix/Monika.

Publication
Felix, Annett and I will be meeting with Fedrigoni on Wednesday, we will update this post as to its next direction.

Cake Sale
Thursday, bring cakes to Sroop (07967764771)

Website Design – What’s been discussed on Friday (27/2)

Filed under: Site Design — Tags: — Lok Neville Lee @ 12:10 pm

Thanks Adam, Joe and Tom for presenting their ideas. We’re still pretty undecided in terms of the layout (unfortunately), we figured we should produce more finished looking templates based on the things we’ve merely decided and discuss them on Monday 2/3:

- No 3D / crazy moving stuff
- Greyscale background (many of us are inclined towards having white background. Yeah, white would surely work. But if you suggest any other background colours on the grey scale, prove that it works by showing a mock-up image)
- Clean & simple
- Show live events and exhibition info on the splash page.
- Use the year photo as the splash page backgound ***IF*** it’s a reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaally fab one. (so have a think about how we want our year photo taken as well)
- 1 project thumbnail per student (186 students altogether) to be displayed when you enter the showcase. We’ve talked about having them appearing randomly or having a line/multiple lines of thumbnails moving.

Reference for thumbnails appearing randomly vs linearly (still random but in line(s)):

Other references for the general layout:

http://lineto.com (well this one was quite controversial because some think the separate navigation is too gimmicky)

*Do suggest a font on Monday.
Not much time left! Work fast!

Yo,

The functionality of the website is going to be very similar to that of the Praline site itself. Although aestheticaly it is most likely going to differ:

http://www.designbypraline.com/

The following shows how we categorise students’ works (open for changes):

4 ‘Secondary Categories’ can be added to projects that are categorised as ‘Advertising’ in the ‘Primary Category’; 1 ’Secondary Category’ can be added to projects that are of other ‘Primary Categories’. This is because advertising projects are essentially campaigns that involve multiple media.

When a web visitor chooses a ‘Primary Category’ in the first drop down menu, a second drop down menu would appear. And a ‘Secondary Category’ would only appear in second drop down menu if a project with that combination exists. For example, if there is no project primarily categorised as ‘Graphic Design’ and secondarily categoried as ‘Fashion/Textile’, ‘Fashion/Textile’ would not appear in the second drop down menu after a web visitor chooses ‘Graphic Design’.

If you have any comments please post them up. There will be some problems with the categories at the moment so say if there is.
